Do any of you remember this anime? I admit I was just barely out of my diapers when this originally aired in Japan. I remember watching this show every Saturday morning in an english-dubbed version when I was still in the Philippines, a decade or so later after it was shown in Japan.
It's odd, but I could still vaguely remember why I loved this show... IT'S BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE MAIN LEAD WAS SO HANDSOME! Yeah, you could tell I was still a baby at the time because I didn't know the difference between a drawing and a real person! (LOL!) I think I never paid much attention to the story because I was either too engrossed with Oscar or I was too young to understand the plot the first time I saw it. I just understood the story years later after watching a re-run of the series, when I was around 12 or 13 years old. Anyway, this anime is probably one of the reasons why I grew up loving anime!
For those of you who are not familiar with the story Rose Of Versailles, it's about Oscar François de Jarjayes, a girl raised as a man to become her father's successor as leader of the Palace Guards. A brilliant fighter and strategist with a strong sense of justice, Oscar is proud of the life she leads, but becomes torn between class loyalty and her desire to help the people in poverty as revolution brews among the oppressed lower class. Also important to the story are her conflicting desires to live life as both a militiant and a regular woman as well as her relationships with Marie Antoinette, Count Axel von Fersen, and servant and best friend André Grandier.
Why am I posting about this anime? Because I finally found the whole series English subbed and out for download as a batch torrent. Ah, eventhough, I'm way past my childhood days, I can still at least have some of my memories back. Can't wait to see this again!
