I was watching a documentary about the late Ninoy Aquino on The Filipino Channel (TFC) tonight, The Last Journey of Ninoy Aquino, in commemoration of his death anniversary last August 21, He was assassinated during his arrival at the Manila International Airport. (Now known as Ninoy Aquino International Airport in his honor.)
I could not help but be immersed into the history of how his legacy started. For the simple reason that I wasn't even born yet or just too young then when he became a public figure, revered by most Filipinos at the time of Martial Law.
For me it was informative and refreshing to watch considering that the Philippines is in dire need of someone like Ninoy Aquino right now. Patriotism lingered in me as I watched his countless struggles to set his nation free of Marcos' dictatorship and power. And the legacy he passed on to his wife, Corazon after his assassination. I'm beginning to understand why people poured out to the streets by the millions just to see him laid to his final resting place, and he isn't even a president. (The same thing happened at President Cory Aquino's burial.)
In my own little way, I'm writing this post in his memory, and Cory's as well for being bearers of democracy in the Philippines. I hope and pray that all their efforts would not go to waste and their legacy will live on.

On a lighter note, my scheduled date with my friends didn't push through, actually it's actually just me. I got lazy to go because I got into this Tagalog pocketbook that I just couldn't put down. Yes, I am getting addicted to tagalog romance novels again! All thanks to an old friend from the Philippines, who sent me the books through a mutual friend who came back to the Philippines for a short vacation.
For those of you who don't know, I used to be an avid reader of these cheesy tagalog pocket books since my highschool days. I even remember bugging my mom to go to the bookstore just to buy me these books every week, which resulted to a huge collection later on, enough to fill two big bookcases in our room before. I'm not sure what happened to the books but I do remember I wasn't able to bring even one book here when my sister and I migrated here in the States.
When I first got here, romance books was still my main source of leisure, other than TV of course.(because computers and internet back then was still rare.) The only difference then is I had to switch to English ones like Silhouette and Harlequin books which really sharpened up my English vocabulary.
Nowadays, I seldom read romance novels, I used to subscribe to monthly romance book clubs but it just got too expensive, so occasional visits to the bookstore satisfy my need to read, but lately I've been reading more mystery than romance. I guess with me getting into romance books again (Tagalog or English ) I won't be stuck in front of this computer than usual. Who knows, it might get my creative juices running again to write another online novel like what I used to do at Fanfiction.net.
But other than that, reading romance again temporarily fills my lack of flair in my so called lovelife... but who am I to complain, being single isn't that bad especially when you prefer "peace" rather than "chaos" between you and your parents like I do. I'm happy with this for now.
