I came to the end.... at last.

During the week of the last episode of Boys Over Flowers had been aired originally, I've read many comments that the final episode left so many odds and ends. Well, after finally seeing the last episode, I have to agree that it did leave a lot of unanswered questions hanging in the air, but it wasn't really as bad as some had said. For me, it wasn't as great as I would have liked but it could have been better.

"Ji-Hoo sunbae, my soulmate, I'll never forget you..." is probably one of the most bittersweet lines that I'll always remember about this series. (It's not the exact wording in Jan-Di's narration as she danced with Ji-Hoo, but I probably gotten pretty much of what she meant.) I think it hurt me more than Ji-Hoo when she said that! (LOL!) but Ji-Hoo being the reserved and compassionate gentleman that he is, quietly conceeded defeat and just be happy for Jun-Pyo and Jan-Di.

(Of course, none of us will ever know how Ji-Hoo really felt when he completely let go of Jan-Di, knowing that he liked her too, because the Ji-Hoo I saw in the last episode, is resigned to do one last thing for Jan-Di and that was to help her get her "happiness" back since Jun-Pyo temporarily lost his memories of Jan-Di. I saw every pain Ji-Hoo felt for Jan-Di in his eyes everytime Jun-Pyo rejected her.)

As for Jan-Di and Jun-Pyo, after all, they've been through, I feel no regrets that they will end up together (as we already know, through the original manga/story) even though I am very much a JI-HOO/JANDI SHIPPER. They deserved to be in each other's arms and live happily ever after.

The part where 4 years later had passed was great in the sense that us, viewers got to know what the F4 and Jan-Di became after they graduated from Shinwa High.

  • Gu-Jun Pyo became successful in reviving his family's Shinwa Group of Companies and is the first to be featured in 4 international economic magazines.
  • Yoon Ji-Hoo is into his last year of medicine and is planning on reopening his grandfather's clinic after graduating.
  • So Yi-Jung just came back from Sweeden and as soon as he got back to Korea, the first person he wanted to see (as he had promised 4 years ago) was Ga-Eul, who's now a kindergaten teacher.)
  • Geum Jan-Di is now on her third year of medicine and she thinks it will take her longer to finish her course. (According to her, Ji-Hoo will graduate first because he enrolled on time so that meant she got into medicine school late.)
But the fast forward to 4 years still didn't answer most of the fans wanted to know.
  • What happened to Jan-Di's dad? He wasn't even in last episode.
  • What's gonna happen to Ji-Hoo after Jan-Di?
(We know Ji-Hoo gave up on Jan-Di for Gu Jun Pyo and Jan-Di to be happy but they should have at least had him meet a girl that he could possibly have ended up with! How could they waste a character like Ji-Hoo, who's every woman's dream to have a boyfriend/husband! Heck, I'd marry him in a minute if he'd like me to!)
  • Song Woo Bin... what happened to him after 4 years? They didn't elaborate much on his character. In fact, not just in the last episode but in the whole series. They concentrated so much on the Gu Jun Pyo/Geum Jan Di/Yoon Ji-Hoo triangle that they had none left for Woo Bin? They had Yi-Jung have Ga Eul and then why not pair Woo Bin with someone too?
  • How about that witch mom of Jun-Pyo? Now she is a caring and doting wife to the husband she called once as "the living dead."? Is 4 years enough for a person as vile and vicious as her to make a complete turn around, just like that?
  • Why wasn't there even just a simple wedding for Jan-Di and Jun-Pyo? A marriage proposal won't mean anything if we didn't even hear any confirmation in end from Jan-Di whether she accepted his proposal or not.
There's actually quite a lot more questions running around in my head right now but if I go through all of that, this post won't be posted until tomorrow!

But all in all, the last episode was okay eventhough it did not live up to the fans' expectations, including myself. And knowing this, didn't even change my resolve to buying an original set of this drama in the near future to add to my collection!

AS ALWAYS....

JI-HOO & JAN-DI FOREVER.
