I spent most of my afternoon today at a close family friend's house because I was invited by her grandma to visit their house today. My friend, Trixie whose grandma, Lola (tagalog term for Grandma) Puricima, just got home from the hospital (she had to stay there for about a couple of weeks and a half I think) and she personally talked to my mom dad for us to visit her today but Dad had work and Mom had church activities she had to prepare for later today so I had to go alone for now.
Trix picked me up before lunch and she said that Lola Puricima needs a little pick me up since she's been down and depressed since her hospital stay, so the family thought having close friends and family come over would be good for her. I remember that sometimes Trix teases me that I was her lola's favorite "honorary apo" (honorary grandchild) just because I could easily make her laugh, which I actually thought otherwise.
In my opinion, Lola just needs someone who she would listen to her stories of her youth and just make her feel appreciated and stuff. I for one, miss having grandparents since mine have passed on (on both sides of the family) and never really had the chance to bond with any of them.
When we got there, Trixie's younger cousins were there to keep their grams entertained as well. After staying for a bit with Lola Puri (I gave her the nickname a few years back.) and read her a few verses from the bible till she fell asleep, I did some bonding with Trix and the kids. I especially blended good with the 4 youngest ones in the bunch and ended watching disney and nick channel for most of the afternoon. And because of this, Trix teased me about my "biological clock" ticking like a time bomb she says!
I don't think it had something to do with it, actually, I would rather look at it as me being a kid at heart.... and I think the kid in me will always stay as long as there are friends and family who accept me the way I am... no matter how old I get.
